About Dr. Muharrem Taşkoparan
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muharrem Taşkoparan specialises in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine in Ankara. His work covers digestive diseases and gastrointestinal endoscopy. In addition, his practice includes diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. He considers each patient’s medical history before planning care.
Education and clinical experience
First, he completed his medical degree at Ege University in 1997. Subsequently, he trained in Internal Medicine at Başkent University Faculty of Medicine. He then completed his Gastroenterology fellowship there between 2004 and 2007. In addition, he earned the title of Associate Professor in 2017.
Dr. Taşkoparan worked at Ankara Güven Hospital for many years. Later, he established his private clinic at YDA Center in Ankara. Today, his practice covers stomach, intestinal, colon, liver and pancreatic diseases. In addition, he evaluates gallbladder and biliary tract conditions.
Clinical areas of interest
His practice includes gastroesophageal reflux disease and inflammatory bowel disease. In addition, he assesses irritable bowel syndrome and colorectal polyps. Where appropriate, he considers advanced endoscopic treatment for selected lesions. However, procedure selection depends on the patient’s findings and clinical needs.

Education and academic career
First, Dr. Taşkoparan studied medicine at Ege University from 1991 to 1997. Later, he worked as a resident in Anaesthesiology and Reanimation at Ankara Numune Hospital in 1998–1999.
He then completed Internal Medicine specialist training at Başkent University from 1999 to 2004. Subsequently, he completed Gastroenterology fellowship training there from 2004 to 2007. In addition, he earned his Associate Professor title in 2017 during his Ankara Güven Hospital career.
Professional experience
Initially, he worked as a general practitioner at Nevşehir Hacıbektaş State Hospital in 1997–1998. Then he continued his training at Ankara Numune Hospital and Başkent University.
Later, he served in Gastroenterology at İstanbul Kasımpaşa Military Hospital in 2007–2008. In addition, his military service included the GATA Haydarpaşa Military Hospital Gastroenterology Clinic. He also worked at Özel Çapa Hospital.
He subsequently completed compulsory Gastroenterology service at Adıyaman State Hospital in 2008–2009. Then he worked in the Gastroenterology Department at Ankara Güven Hospital from 2010 to 2023. Since 2023, he has continued his practice at YDA Center.
Specialist theses
First, he completed his Internal Medicine thesis in 2004. Its topic was dyspepsia prevalence and influencing factors in patients with chronic renal failure. In addition, Uğur Yılmaz supervised the thesis.
Then he completed his Gastroenterology thesis in 2007. It examined the early effects of peginterferon and ribavirin on blood pressure and insulin resistance in chronic hepatitis C. In addition, Ender Serin supervised this work.

- Balloon dilation and stent placement for gastrointestinal strictures
- Endoscopic submucosal resection
- Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) placement and replacement
PEG supports nutrition when oral feeding remains inadequate for a prolonged period, such as longer than 2–3 months. In addition, assessment may address swallowing difficulty or aspiration during feeding. Coughing, choking and inadequate growth are relevant clinical features. However, the doctor evaluates suitability individually. The aim is safer, more comfortable nutrition.
